Re-Member is an independent, non-profit organization working with the Oglala Lakota Nation on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. They improve the quality of life for those who live there, and provide meaningful opportunities to serve and learn for those who volunteer and support their work.
Re-Member’s efforts are funded by private donations, and guided by the aspirations of tribal members who are generous with their wisdom as cultural speakers, community leaders, and builders of understanding. For the past 12 years the Ballet Folklorico Tapatio of Northwest Indiana has been providing lessons to children from all over Northwest Indiana. They also produce a local show for the community, which is always a hit. The mission of the group is to preserve cultural heritage by using the performing arts as a means of teaching students about Mexico's history and cultural traditions. They promote public awareness of Mexican heritage by showcasing traditional dances, music and dress, thereby fostering an appreciation for and understanding of other cultures. MOMS Club® of Valparaiso is a support group for moms aimed at helping mothers who stay home during the day or part of the time with their children. They meet a few times each week for park play dates, craft days, tours or MOM centered activities, including a Moms Night Out. Cara, the founder/director of A Mission Of Service, has been working with Gabriel's Horn for over 20 years, way before the idea of AMOS was born. Our AMOS team is fortunate to be able to continue to work with this wonderful 501(c)(3). Gabriel's Horn is a shelter for women and women with children experiencing homelessness. They are located in the South Haven area of Valparaiso, IN. In addition to shelter, they offer counseling, transportation, art classes and aftercare programs. They also have a case management team that helps link residents to community resources, rebuild their lives and return to independence with dignity. Portage Resale Shop was founded in 2004. Their shop carries high quality clothing, household items, books, toys, jewelry, home decor and accessories. They sell these items at reasonable rates to help fund their ministry. They also help furnish all of the homeless shelters in Porter County, IN and assist individuals transitioning out of homelessness, with home furnishings, housewares and clothing to help them on their journey. They also assist schools with proper clothing and coats for students. Throughout the year, they give away over 2000 coats! AMOS feels blessed to be able to have been a part of donating to the coat drive and we hope to be fortunate enough to do so for many more years to come. A Mission Of Service has been incredibly blessed to work with Uniquely Nico since 2018. Uniquely Nico is a local 501(c)(3), they are actively involved in uniting families of special needs children in hopes of building a greater community of resources for those children and all the people that love them. For over 40 years the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana has been collecting and distributing food and meals to hungry kids, adults and seniors across Lake and Porter counties. They acquire, store and distribute more than 7 million pounds of food across Lake and Porter counties every year. This is done through their partner agencies, mobile food distributions and direct service programs for seniors, adults, youth and families.
